ULC-1000AN MSAN: The complete triple-play solution
The ADSL connectivity on the ULC-1000AN allows advanced services such as VoIP, broadband internet, video on demand, video conference and TV over DSL delivered to the subscribers and brings new revenues to operators. It provides full DSLAM functionality serving up to 160 ports in only 4U of shelf space.
The main component for ULC-1000AN to serve as a DSLAM is ATU-C4/8/16 module, which compose of 4、8 and 16 ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ ports individually. With different uplink line module served, the ULC-1000AN may be configured as either an IP-DSLAM with a Gigabit Ethernet uplink network interface or as ATM-based DSLAM with 4*E1 or 8*E1 IMA or STM1 IMA uplink network interface.
When the ULC-1000AN is configured as a DSLAM function, its IGMP snooping multicasting feature and Quality of service (QoS) capability provide the connectivity demanded by new services including broadband internet, voice over IP and video on demand.

With the leading-edge MGU (Media Gateway Unit) module, the ULC-1000AN acts as a VoIP media gateway designed for commercial VoIP deployment. It provides superior voice technology for connecting legacy telephones (POTS), fax machines and PBX systems over IP-based telephony networks.
ULC-1000AN in NGN architecture
The ULC-1000AN complies with H.248 (Megaco), MGCP and SIP protocols. IP-based voice services are carried across the packet core network and when they reach edge network, the ULC-1000AN media gateway takes over the service delivery to customers using the existing narrow band voice technology (POTS)
No change is perceived by customers, because they are able to continue using existing user telephones or terminals.
Using standard G.711, G.729A, G.726 and G.723.1 compression algorithms with Voice Activity Detection (VAD) and silence suppression, the ULC-1000AN provides efficient bandwidth optimization, leaving more bandwidth for data transportation. The ULC-1000AN was designed and tested to be fully interoperable with leading soft switches.
Migration
The ULC-1000AN is capable of having V5.2-interfaces coexisted with VoIP media gateway function in the same platform. It is ideal for gradual migration from conventional to NGN telephony.

The V5.2 (which is an extension of the V5.1 standard) allows over-subscription of services based on dynamic on-demand assignment of timeslots for optimal utilization of available bandwidth on the physical link. The ULC-1000AN access network system implements V5.2 with up to sixteen physical E1 lines per V5.2 interface.
The V5P module handles the V5.2 protocol signal including the control protocol, PSTN protocol, BCC protocol, link control protocol and protection protocol.
